Skylar Vann (Oklahoma) was named Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and Rori Harmon (Texas) earned the Conference’s Freshman of the Week award for games ending Jan. 16, as selected by a five-person media panel.
Vann had two 20-point games off the bench, helping the Sooners to a 2-0 week and a jump from No. 23 to No. 14 in the AP Top 25 poll. She had a career-high 22 points in the Sooners’ 83-77 win over then-No. 14 Baylor, adding in seven rebounds, four steals and three assists to the effort. The Edmond, Oklahoma native scored 20 points with six rebounds in Oklahoma’s 100-71 victory over TCU. For the week, Vann averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 53.6 percent from the floor. It is Vann’s first Big 12 weekly honor, and she is the third Sooner to earn Player of the Week this season.
Harmon earned her third Big 12 Freshman of the Week nod by averaging 9.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals for the week. She was on triple-double watch in the overtime game against Kansas, scoring eight points with nine rebounds and seven assists. In Texas’ 73-57 win over West Virginia, Harmon scored 11 points off 5-of-10 shooting to go along with nine rebounds and five steals.
