Big 12 Announces Week 10 Football Honors

TCU’s Derius Davis (special teams) and Johnny Hodges (co-newcomer) were joined by Kansas’ Devin Neal (offensive), Texas’ Jaylan Ford (defensive) and Iowa State’s Cartevious Norton (co-newcomer) as Big 12 Football Week 10 award winners. Neal captured his third career accolade in two seasons. Davis and Ford picked up their second career honor with both of Ford’s won this season.

Neal led Kansas to a 37-16 victory over No. 18 Oklahoma State, rushing a career-high 32 times for 224 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore RB added six receptions for 110 yards, becoming the first Jayhawk in school history with 200+ rushing yards and 100+ receiving yards in the same game. He is also just the fifth Power Five running back to accomplish such a feat since at least 1996. Neal has seven rushing touchdowns this season and is sixth in the Big 12 with 761 rushing yards.

Ford collected an interception, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and a team-leading 10 tackles, including six solo, in leading Texas to a 34-27 win at No. 13 Kansas State. His interception, which he returned 18 yards, set up the Longhorns at the Wildcats' 27-yard line with 1:07 left in the first half. The UT offense used the turnover to score a touchdown for a 31-10 halftime lead. It was Ford's second career interception. He later collected his second career fumble recovery with 24 seconds left in the game, which sealed the win. Ford also had a forced fumble in the third quarter. The junior LB registered his fifth double-digit tackle game this season and continues to lead the Big 12 with 9.11 tackles per game and 82 total.

Davis took his first punt return attempt of the game 82 yards for a touchdown to give TCU an early lead in its 34-24 win over Texas Tech. It was the senior’s fifth career punt return TD, which set the program record. Davis now has six career special teams scores to tie the all-time mark. The 82-yard return was the seventh-longest in TCU history. Davis also had three receptions in the game, including a 23-yarder for a TD.

Norton, who has battled injuries in his freshman season, had his best career game with two touchdowns and 69 rushing yards in Iowa State’s 31-14 win over West Virginia. He added four receptions for 18 yards to finish with 87 yards of total offense. Norton scored on carries of five and three yards in the fourth quarter as the Cyclones broke open a close game.

Hodges led TCU with eight tackles against TTU. He keyed a defensive effort that limited the Red Raiders to 256 yards of offense until a drive in the final minutes of the game, with the contest decided, brought Tech’s total to 352 yards. The junior LB has a team-best 55 tackles on the season.
