Three Records Set, TCU Wins First Diving Title at Day 1 of Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The Texas men and women set three Big 12 Championship records on the first day of the 2022 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, while TCU’s David Ekdahl became the first Horned Frog diver to win a Big 12 Championship. The Longhorns lead the men’s standings with 142 points and the women’s with 80 points.

In the women’s 200 medley relay, UT placed first while recording an all-time Big 12 record and fifth-fastest mark in the NCAA this year of 1:34.04, breaking the time set by the Longhorns earlier this season (1:34.26). Texas’ 800 free relay time of 7:01.74 secured another first-place finish for the women.

The Longhorn men finished the 200 medley relay with a Big 12 Championship record of 1:22.24, the third-fastest time in the NCAA this season. UT clinched another Big 12 Championship record finishing with a 6:08.76 in the 800 free relay which topped the former 14-year meet record.

Ekdahl captured the Men’s 1-meter diving championship with his score of 388.50, a Horned Frog school record.

Prelims will resume Thursday at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT with finals beginning at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT. Both Prelims and Finals will be aired on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and results can be viewed here.
