BU’s Smith, K-State’s Sundell Picked For WBB Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas - Baylor’s NaLyssa Smith was voted Big 12 Player of the Week and Kansas State’s Serena Sundell collected Freshman of the Week honors from a five-person media panel for games ending Feb. 27.
 
Smith earned her third weekly honor of the season by averaging 26.0 points, 15.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in two Baylor wins. She scored a career-high 33 points with 16 rebounds in Baylor’s 85-77 win over Kansas. In the Bears’ 65-58 win at Oklahoma State, she scored 19 points with 15 rebounds and three blocks. Smith surpassed the 1,000-rebound milestone for her career, and shot 55.3 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free throw line to pick up her sixth career weekly honor.
 
Sundell was tabbed Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the fourth time, tying the Conference lead. She did not leave the floor in games against Texas and Oklahoma, averaging 20.0 points, 5.0 assists and a 5.0 assist-to-turnover ratio. She scored 24 points with seven assists and two steals against Oklahoma, draining a career-high five 3-pointers. In the game against Texas, she had a team-high 16 points and a pair of blocks. For the week, Sundell shot 51.7 percent on field goals and 42.9 percent on 3-pointers.
