Baylor’s Kaci West and Oklahoma State’s Morgan Day were named Co-Pitchers of the week while Texas’ Katie Cimusz was awarded Player of the Week for their efforts in the fourth week of the softball season.
West threw the first perfect game in Baylor’s softball history when she pitched five innings with five strikeouts in a 9-0 win against Prairie View A&M. She started against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and compiled six strikeouts in a 5-3 Bears victory. The freshman from Liberty, Texas finished with a 0.68 ERA during the week, the second-best in the Big 12.
Day struck out 16 batters against DePaul in a 4-0 Cowgirl victory, finishing two shy of her career-high and had the most strikeouts by an OSU player since Jessica Hoppock in 2007. The senior held opposing batters to a .111 average during the week, the third-highest in the league.
Cimusz powered the Longhorns to a 5-2 record during the week by hitting .429 with eight runs scored, two steals, a conference-high four home runs and 21 total bases while accumulating seven RBIs and posting a 1.500 OPS. The Humble, Texas native hit safely in six-of-seven games and reached base safely in all seven games.
