OU, OSU & UT Ready for 2022 Women’s College World Series

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas are set to compete at the 2022 NCAA DI Women’s College World Series held in Oklahoma City at USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex.

The Big 12 advanced a nation-high 42.9 percent of its teams to the WCWS and is tied for first among conferences with the number of teams to make it to Oklahoma City.

It marks the highest percentage of teams the Conference has ever placed into the WCWS and the three teams in this year’s field are the most for the league since 2011 when four teams qualified.

Reigning national champion Oklahoma is in the WCWS for the 15th time, sixth in a row, and is looking for its sixth national title and fourth in the last six championships staged. OU swept UCF in the Super Regional round picking up an 8-0 five-inning victory in the first game followed by a 7-1 game two win. The Sooners are outscoring opponents 52-3 so far this postseason.

The Cowgirls took both games from Clemson (2-0, 5-1) and have advanced to the WCWS three consecutive times. Since the Super Regionals were added in 2005, this year is the first time in program history that OSU has reached the WCWS undefeated in postseason play.

The Longhorns are making their sixth WCWS appearance and the first since 2013. UT became the first school to hand Arkansas back-to-back losses this season and the first team to win a three-game series against the Razorbacks in 2022. Texas lost the first game in the series before winning the next two headlined by Sophia Simpson’s complete-game shutout in game three.

The opening stage of the WCWS splits the eight teams into two four-team double elimination brackets. A full bracket can be found here.

Big 12 teams will be featured in three of the opening day’s four matchups this Thursday, June 2 with all games being aired on ESPN.
