Baylor’s Bryson Jackson (co-defensive), K-State’s Adrian Martinez (offensive) and Kobe Savage (newcomer) along with Texas Tech’s Reggie Pearson (co-defensive) and Trey Wolff (special teams) received Big 12 football Week 4 awards after helping their teams to conference wins. It is the second career accolade for Pearson and Wolff while the others are first-time honorees.
Martinez accounted for 382 yards of total offense and five touchdowns in Kansas State’s 41-34 road win at No. 6 Oklahoma. He was 21-34 with one TD through the air while rushing for 148 yards on 21 carries with four scores. The transfer senior’s four rushing TDs set a career-high and were the most by a Wildcat since Skylar Thompson’s four at OU in 2019. The Wildcats have defeated a team ranked in the AP Top 25 in four of the last six seasons, including the third time under head coach Chris Klieman. Three of the wins have been against OU.
Jackson racked up four solo tackles, including two sacks, and a QB hurry in Baylor’s 31-24 win at Iowa State. The linebacker’s two sacks were a career-high and resulted in a loss of seven yards as he played mostly on passing downs. The Bears held their opponent to 30 or fewer points for the 18
th consecutive game.
Pearson set a season-high with five tackles while also recording an interception and recovering a key fumble in overtime to help Texas Tech to a come-from-behind 37-34 victory over No. 22 Texas. The defensive back intercepted Texas quarterback Hudson Card early in the second quarter, returning it 20 yards into UT territory. However, Pearson’s biggest play came in overtime as he fell on a UT fumble, ending the Longhorns' possession on their first play. The Red Raiders responded with a field goal to secure their second top-25 victory this season. Texas Tech limited Texas to 154 yards of total offense in the second half en route to overcoming a 14-point deficit, its second-largest all-time in the series versus the Longhorns.
Wolff was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal attempts in Texas Tech's OT victory over No. 22 Texas. All three of his field goals came in the second half or overtime as he found the uprights from 27 yards out midway through the third quarter and then from 45 yards with only 21 seconds remaining in regulation. His final field goal was the game-winner as he sailed his attempt inside the left upright from 20 yards out to send the Red Raiders to their second top-25 victory of the season. It marked the fourth time in Wolff's career he has made three field goals and the first time this season as he is now 5-of-6 on the year. His field goal late in regulation was only two yards shy of his career-high and gave the Red Raiders a 34-31 lead.
Savage led K-State with 11 tackles in its 41-34 upset at No. 6 Oklahoma. His 11 stops are the most by a Wildcat in a game this season. The junior safety’s effort helped hold OU eight points under its points-per-game average and 15 points less than the Sooners scored the previous week at Nebraska. The win at sixth-ranked Oklahoma was just the 11th all-time by K-State against an Associated Press top-10 team, while it was the fifth in a road game.
