Oklahoma Sweeps 2023 Big 12 Gymnastics’ First Weekly Awards

Oklahoma’s Jordan Bowers (Gymnast), Ava Siegfeldt (Event Specialist) and Faith Torrez (Newcomer) claimed the first set of Big 12 Gymnastics weekly awards for the 2023 season. The trio helped OU post the highest total score of the 2023 opening weekend and achieve the program’s second-highest season-opening score of 197.925. Bowers claimed her eighth career weekly accolade as Siegfeldt and Torrez earned their first.

Bowers opened her season at the Super 16 in Las Vegas setting a career-high all-around score of 39.650. She won vault scoring a 9.975 as the Sooners competed against No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Auburn, and No. 10 UCLA. The sophomore posted a career-best 9.925 on beam before scoring a 9.850 on bars and 9.900 on floor. Her performances ranked in the nation’s top 10 as she is No. 1 in all-around, No. 2 in vault and No. 10 in beam.

Siegfeldt made her collegiate debut scoring a 9.925 on beam. The freshman’s score tied teammate Jordan Bowers for the team’s second-best score in the event. Additionally, her beam score is nationally-ranked in the top 10.

Torrez made her collegiate debut competing in bars (9.850), beam (9.900), and floor (9.950). She landed a double back dismount at the end of her beam routine, which is rare in NCAA gymnastics. Torrez won her first individual title as she tied for first in floor. Her score landed her a share of the No. 1 position in the rankings for the event. She is the first Oklahoma freshman since Olivia Trautman in 2019 to rank No. 1 in an individual event during opening weekend.
