Oklahoma State’s Naomie Alnatas (co-player) plus Texas Tech’s Bre’Amber Scott (co-player) and Jasmine Shavers (freshman) were bestowed with Big 12 women’s basketball weekly awards for games ending January 15.
Alnatas led Oklahoma State to a pair of wins, including a defeat of then-No. 18 Baylor for the Cowgirls’ first win in Waco since 2008. Against the Bears, Alnatas scored 17 points with four rebounds and an assist in the 70-65 win, including a dagger 3-pointer with 54 seconds remaining to put the Cowgirls up by four. In Oklahoma State’s 80-70 win over TCU, Alnatas had 24 points off of 8-of-17 shooting to go along with five rebounds and a pair of assists. The Cayenne, French Guiana native averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists to pick up her first Big 12 weekly honor.
Bre’Amber Scott has now recorded four consecutive 20+ point games, after a week where she averaged a Power 5-best 30.0 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds and shooting 68.0 percent from the field. Against No. 19 Oklahoma, she came off the bench to score 23 points off of 8-of-11 shooting. The Little Rock, Arkansas native scored 37 points in the 85-65 win at Kansas State, the highest point total for a Big 12 player this season. She added 11 rebounds and two assists in the game, and only needed 14 field goal attempts to get her 37 points, as she added a 17-of-19 effort at the free throw line. It is Scott’s first Big 12 weekly honor.
Shavers had a pair of double-digit scoring outings, averaging 19.0 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 53.8% from the field. In the game against the Sooners, she had 12 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes of game time. The Mesquite, Texas native went off for a career-high 26 points against K-State, going 10-of-16 from the field to help the Lady Raiders to victory. It is Shavers’ third freshman of the week honor this season, and the fifth for a Texas Tech frosh.
