Texas’ Rori Harmon (co-player), Kansas’ Taiyanna Jackson (co-player) and Texas Tech’s Jasmine Shavers (freshman) were voted for Big 12 women’s basketball weekly awards for the first week of Big 12 play.
Harmon led the Longhorns to a pair of wins, averaging 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 11.5 assists and 2.5 steals. In an 87-41 win to open Big 12 play over Kansas State, she had 15 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds, becoming the first Division I player to record those totals in a game during the 2022-23 season. She had 15 points, 10 assists and one turnover in a 96-53 win against Texas A&M-Commerce, and is just the fifth Big 12 player since 2013 to match-or-exceed that stat line. She also compiled six rebounds and three steals in the game. It is Harmon’s first career Player of the Week nod after being recognized four times as Freshman of the Week in 2021-22.
Jackson had her league-leading eighth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points with 19 rebounds in the Jayhawks’ 80-65 win at Oklahoma State. She went 8-for-13 from the field (61.5%) and added two assists, a steal and a block. Jackson is the only player in the Big 12 to have at least 17 points and 19 rebounds in a game this season, and has accomplished the feat in back-to-back games. She had 10 rebounds in the fourth quarter alone, helping KU expand a six-point margin from the start of the quarter to an eventual 15-point victory. It is Jackson’s first weekly honor from the Conference.
Shavers averaged 10.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in two games for the Lady Raiders. Against Mississippi Valley State, she scored 12 points in just 18 minutes, and shot 41.7 percent from the field as Texas Tech cruised 68-45. Against Iowa State, she scored nine points with three rebounds and an assist. She had three steals and no turnovers, helping TTU to a plus-10 turnover margin in a Big 12 game for just the second time since 2014. It is the second time Shavers has received Freshman of the Week, and the fourth time this season for a Texas Tech player.
