Late Goal Pushes Texas Tech to 2023 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship Semifinals

AUSTIN, Texas - Gisselle Kozarski’s goal in the 89th minute lifted Texas Tech (15-0-4) to a 2-1 win over Cincinnati (4-8-7) Monday afternoon during the 2023 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship. It marks the fourth time in five seasons that the Red Raiders have advanced to the semifinal stage.

TTU jumped out to an early lead, registering the only first-half goal in the 13th minute as Hannah Anderson scored a header off a free kick taken by 2023 Big 12 Soccer Freshman of the Year Sam Courtwright.  It was Anderson’s fifth goal of the year.

Despite being down a goal at the half, No. 9-seeded Cincinnati held the advantage over No. 1-seeded Texas Tech in shots (6-4) and shots on goal (2-1).

In a 1-on-1 dribbling situation, UC’s Laura Zemberyova booted the ball right past TTU goalkeeper Madison White to score the equalizer in the 57th minute. The match remained tied until Kozarski’s last-minute game-winner, her third score of the season.

Facing each other for the second time this season, both teams ended the contest with 11 fouls in a defensive battle on the pitch.

Texas Tech advances to the semifinals to face No. 4-seeded Texas. The match is slated for 4:35 p.m. CT on Wednesday.
