AUSTIN, Texas – Chloe Netzel secured UCF’s (10-6-1) spot in the 2023 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship semifinals after scoring the game-winning goal in the 82
nd minute to beat TCU 3-2.
TCU (10-6-3) struck early as Gracie Brian scored in the sixth minute off a pass from teammates Seven Castain and Olivia Hasler.
Both teams exchanged shots at the goal with TCU leading 8-5 in shots but both squads had only one land on target. TCU and UCF would remain scoreless for the conclusion of the half.
UCF’s Mia Asenjo scored the Knights’ first goal of the night in the 52
nd minute before dishing out an assist to teammate Dayana Martin for a goal 14 minutes later.
TCU’s Gracie Brian would later record her own assist as she and teammate Bella Diorio tallied an assist when Maddie Mooney scored the equalizer in the 73
rd minute to tie the game 2-2. Brian, Diorio, and Lauren Memoly led the Horned Frogs in shots, registering a combined 10 between the trio.
No. 6 seed UCF will face No. 2 seed BYU on Wednesday at 6 p.m. MT/7 p.m. CT/ 8 p.m. ET at the Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.
Wednesday’s semifinal matches have been relocated to the University of Texas.
