AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 seed BYU (16-1-3) will make its first appearance in a Big 12 Soccer Championship final in its first season in the Conference after a 4-1 victory over No. 6 seed UCF (10-7-1) Wednesday evening.
Backed behind a brace from Olivia Wade-Katoa, the Cougars were up 3-0 heading in the half. Wade-Katoa scored her first goal of the evening in the 28
th minute followed by a second one seven minutes later.
The Cougars would score all of their goals in the first half as Brecken Mozingo and Ellie Walbruch netted goals in the 39
th and the 44
th minutes, respectively. Joining teammate Wade-Katoa, the pair all registered their 10
th goals of the season during the contest.
The BYU defense got called for a handball in the box, which led to UCF’s Katie Bradley converting a penalty kick in the 79
th minute. The senior would almost score another goal in the match, but was offsides.
UCF ended the match with 14 shots with forward Dayana Martin having a team high five.
The No. 2-seeded BYU Cougars will face the No. 4-seeded Texas Longhorns in the final match of the 2023 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. Kickoff is slated for 7:05 p.m.
The match will feature flares that will go off every time a goal is scored as well as a confetti celebration at the conclusion of the contest.
