Texas Advances to Soccer Championship Final

No. 4-seeded Texas (14-4-2) will play in the final match of the 2023 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship after posting a 1-0 win over No. 1-seeded Texas Tech (15-1-4) at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field. This marks the second time in three seasons that the Longhorns will play for the Big 12 Soccer Championship trophy.

In the 50th minute of the match, UT’s Trinity Byars knocked in her 17th goal of the 2023 campaign, matching her total from a season ago, to give Texas the win.

In the scoreless first half, the Longhorns held the advantage in shots (10-3) while the Red Raiders led in saves (3-2). TTU’s Madison White and UT’s Mia Justus both made huge saves in the 32nd and 33rd minutes to hold their opponents scoreless.

TTU’s Alex Kerr led the Red Raiders with four shots, which includes her three taken in the second half. Teammates Sam Courtwright and Hannah Anderson both had two shots each that combined for the remaining of Texas Tech’s eight total shots.

Already announced in the NCAA Selection Committee’s Top 16, Texas Tech will find out who it will face in the first round of the NCAA Tournament during Monday’s selection show on NCAA.com.

The Longhorns will face the winner of the No. 2 seed BYU vs. No. 6 seed UCF semifinal match.
