TCU’s Madison Conner (player) and Oklahoma State’s Stailee Heard (freshman) were picked for the first set of 2023-24 Big 12 women’s basketball weekly awards.
Conner averaged 23.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists as she led the Horned Frogs to a 3-0 start, the program’s first since 2019. The Arizona transfer posted the first two double-doubles of her career, including a 30-point, 11-rebound performance in the season opener against Oral Roberts. The junior guard followed up with 22 points in a win against Texas A&M-Kingsville, draining five of her 15 3-pointers during the game. In the 67-42 win over Rice, the Chandler, Arizona native had 19 points and matched her career-high again with 11 rebounds. The sociology major is the first TCU player since December 2021 to be selected as Big 12 Player of the Week.
Heard made 71.0% of her field goals, averaging 16.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for the Cowgirls. The Sapulpa, Oklahoma native became the first OSU freshman to record a double-double in her debut since 1993, scoring 18 points with 10 rebounds in the season-opener against SIU-Edwardsville. The guard went 7-of-8 from the field in the matchup against New Orleans, finishing with 15 points. In the game against now-No. 5 Colorado, she played 39 minutes and scored 17 points. She is the first Oklahoma State freshman to take home a weekly award since February 2021.
