Oklahoma State DMR Teams Break Records While OSU and KU Lead after Day One of Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship

LUBBOCK, Texas – Two records were broken and 11 champions were crowned after six events were completed on Friday at the 2023 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Sports Performance Center on the campus of Texas Tech. The Oklahoma State women and the Kansas men top the standings after the opening day.
 
The Cowgirls lead with 68 points while Oklahoma (47.5), Kansas State (34), Iowa State (30) and Kansas (12.5) round out the top five on the women’s side. The Jayhawks compiled 41 points in the men’s competition followed by Texas (39), Oklahoma State (29), Texas Tech (28) and Iowa State (24).
 
Oklahoma sophomore Pippi Lotta Enok became the second Sooner to claim first place in the women’s pentathlon, scoring 4,207 points. She took first place in the long jump (6.10m), second in the high jump (1.71m), third in the 60m run (8.62m) and seventh in the shot put (11.61) but it was her second-place victory in the 800m run (2:19.26) that solidified the win for her.
 
The Sooners’ Abby Moore collected her first Big 12 title as she threw 20.88m in the weight throw. Iowa State’s Cam Jones took the men’s competition with a throw of 23.27 meters.
 
Oklahoma State swept the 5,000m run with the reigning 3,000m 2022 Big 12 champions Taylor Roe (16:08.37) and Alex Maier (14:11.72) earning the wins.
 
OSU junior Ariadni Adamopoulou claimed the pole vault title as she cleared 4.19 meters while Texas Tech’s Zach Bradford won his second consecutive pole vault title clearing 5.63 meters.
 
Iowa State sophomore Sydney Willits became the Cyclones’ first long jump Big 12 title winner since 2018 as she leapt a career-high 6.33 meters. Nikaoli Williams became the second straight Sooner to win the long jump with a mark of 7.73 meters on Friday.
 
Coming off its nation’s leading Distance Medley Relay performance last week, the Cowboys broke both the Big 12 meet and the Texas Tech facility record by running a 9:31.52 in the event. OSU broke its record set in 2015 by over five seconds for the program’s third consecutive DMR Big 12 title. The Cowgirls claimed their second-straight DMR title with a time of 11:12.21 and also set a facility record.
 
Championship Saturday begins at 11 a.m. CT with the men’s heptathlon. Field events begin at
1 p.m. CT with the women’s shot put while the women’s 60m hurdles kick off the running events at 2 p.m. CT.  Live coverage will continue on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and live results will be available through PrimeTime Timing.
