Oklahoma’s Alex Storako was chosen first overall by the Oklahoma City Spark while a total of five Big 12 student-athletes were selected in the 2023 Women’s Professional Fastpitch (WPF) draft Monday night. The Big 12 tied for second among all leagues in the number of selections.
Joining Storako from OU were Haley Lee who was taken with the first pick in the fourth round by the OKC Spark, and Grace Lyons who the Texas Smoke chose with the second pick of the sixth round. The Sooners led all schools in draftees.
Oklahoma State’s Rachel Becker was drafted with the fifth overall pick in the second round while Kiley Naomi was selected with the third pick of the third round as the Smash It Sports Vipers took both players.
Due to NCAA regulations, athletes selected in Monday's draft are not permitted to sign with their respective teams until the conclusion of the 2023 collegiate season when their eligibilities have been exhausted.
The WPF is entering its second season and expanded in 2023 to include two more teams.
