OU Advances to Seventh Consecutive Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship Final

OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-seeded Oklahoma advanced to its seventh straight Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship final with a 9-0 run-rule victory over No. 5-seeded Iowa State at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The Sooners have made the final in nine of the last 10 completed Championships.

The Sooners scored in each of the first three innings to jump out to an early lead. Oklahoma’s first six batters all reached base with three hits, two walks and one fielder’s choice, resulting in three runs. The Cyclones tallied the inning-ending strikeout after throwing out two Sooners at home plate for the first two outs.

In the bottom of the second, Tiare Jennings extended the lead with an RBI single before Grace Lyons stretched the lead to 7-0 with her seventh homer of the season, this time to right center. It was Lyons’ second hit in as many innings and she finished 2-for-2 with two runs, one home run and four RBI in the semifinal match.

Jayda Coleman later put the last two runs on the board in the third inning with her 14th home run of the season to bring it to a final score of 9-0.

OU’s Alex Storako, Kierston Deal and Jordy Bahl combined for five strikeouts while only surrendering two walks and one hit.

The Sooners will face the winner of Game 5 between No. 2-seeded Texas and No. 6-seed Kansas, Saturday, May 13 at Noon CT on Big 12 Now on ESPN. Tickets are available for purchase here.
