Baylor’s 2022-23 Big 12 Athlete of the Year Nominees

The 2022-23 Big 12 Athlete of the Year nominees will be featured each day at 10 a.m. CT and 2 p.m. CT, listed in alphabetical order by school through Friday, July 28.

Each institution nominated one male and one female athlete of any classification that competed for their institution during the 2022-23 school year. Student-athletes were required to be in good academic standing and had to be from a league-sponsored sport.

The 10 schools that competed during the 2022-23 academic year are eligible.

The winners will be announced Monday, July 31. Stay tuned to Big12Sports.com and the league’s social media platforms to see the rest of the candidates.

This morning’s featured candidates are Baylor’s Adam Flagler and Dominika Silvestri.

Baylor Male Athlete of the Year Candidate
Adam Flagler, Basketball, Guard
Sr., Duluth, Ga.
Accomplishments
  • Led the Bears in minutes per game (33.6), points per game (15.6), assists (148) and three-point field goal percentage (40%) in 2022-23.
  • Helped the Baylor offense finish second nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency (121.3), while he exceeded the double-figure scoring mark in 29 of 32 games this season.
  • One of two unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selections in 2022-23.
  • Became BU’s all-time leader in NCAA Tournament scoring (135 points) and minutes (274).
  • Majored in Health Science Study with a concentration in Physical Therapy.
Baylor Female Athlete of the Year Candidate
Dominika Silvestri, Equestrian, Jumping Seat
Sr., Andover, Mass.  
Accomplishments
  • 2022-23 NCEA Flat Rider of the Year and a NCEA First Team Flat All-American.
  • The 2022-23 Big 12 Flat Rider of the Year while making the 2022-23 All-Big 12 Flat Team.
  • Was the 2022-23 Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Performer in Fences.
  • Set a program record with 14 individual wins in Flat during the year.
  • Graduated from Baylor with a degree in Finance and Marketing in spring 2023. Was a 2023 NCEA All-Academic Second Team honoree along with a 2023 First Team Academic All-Big 12 honoree.
  • Participated in the 2023 Women Leaders in College Sports Women’s Leadership Symposium while also serving on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
