The Big 12 captured both of the Week 2 Walter Camp National Players of the Week as Texas QB Quinn Ewers picked up the offensive award after the win over Alabama and Oklahoma LB Danny Stutsman collected the defensive honor with the Sooners’ victory against SMU.
Ewers completed 24-of-38 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns as 11th-ranked Texas defeated third-ranked Alabama, 34-24. Ewers threw two scoring passes to highlight the Longhorns’ 21-point fourth quarter that lifted them to victory, which snapped the Crimson Tide’s 21-game home winning streak. Ewers is the 12th Texas player to earn Walter Camp National Player of Week honors since 2004, and the first Longhorn since former running back Bijan Robinson was recognized on Sept. 5, 2021.
Stutsman recorded a game-high 17 tackles (5 solo), including two for losses, one quarterback sack and one quarterback hurry as 18th-ranked Oklahoma defeated SMU, 28-11. Stutsman also recovered a fumble as the Sooners (2-0) held the Mustangs scoreless over the game’s final 12 minutes to seal the victory. It is the 11th time an Oklahoma player has earned Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004. Stutsman is the first Sooner defensive honoree since LB Kenneth Murray (Sept. 23, 2018).
