Three Big 12 soccer programs secured weekly accolades after top performances during Week 3. UT’s Lexi Missimo was named the Offensive Player of the Week while BYU’s Kendell Petersen collected her second defensive honor this season. TCU’s Lauren Kellett was recognized as Goalkeeper of the Week while UT’s Avery Clark took Freshman of the Week.
Missimo registered the most points in the Conference with 10 last week after dishing out six assists and scoring two goals. In the Longhorn 5-0 win against UTRGV, the junior had a role in all goals scored where she recorded four assists and converted a penalty kick in the 56
th minute. Competing against SMU on Sunday, she tabbed two more assists and scored her second game-winning goal this season with a penalty kick as UT won 6-0. Registering an assist in every match this season, Missimo’s six assists during Week 3 marked her as the new assist leader in Texas program history as well as the NCAA’s career active leader with 42 assists.
Petersen garnered three assists in two contests where the Cougars outscored their opponents 9-2. In the 3-1 win over the defending national champion and then-ranked No. 1 UCLA, she recorded two assists. The BYU defense held the Bruins to their season-lowest three shots on goal, which helped the Cougars achieve their first-ever win over a No. 1-ranked opponent. Petersen then tabbed another assist in BYU’s 6-1 win over Utah Valley. She leads the team in assists this season with six.
Kellett’s seven saves against Texas A&M on Sunday helped the Horned Frogs conclude Week 3 with a 1-0-1 record. During TCU’s 0-0 tie with UAB, she recorded her 22
nd career shutout to become the program’s all-time shutout leader passing former TCU goalkeeper Emily Alvarado (2017-2021). Grabbing four saves in the last 13 minutes of the match against the Aggies, which included a penalty kick, Kellett recorded her second consecutive shutout this season as TCU won 1-0.
Clark was one of three Longhorns who scored multiple goals last week, scoring one goal each in the two contests against UTRGV and SMU. Against SMU, the forward added an assist during her career-high five-point performance. Before facing Texas, the Mustangs held opponents to only one goal each. The Brentwood, Tennessee native has netted a goal in three of the last four matches and is tied for the third-most goals scored (3) from the Longhorns this season.
