Jamal Shead picked up Houston’s first Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week while Kansas State’s Arthur Kaluma received his first Newcomer of the Week and second award of the season after each led their teams to a pair of conference wins during Week 11. Shead was also honored as a USBWA National Player of the Week.
 
Shead led Houston with 19.5 points, 7.5 assists and 3.0 steals along with a 3.75 assist-turnover ratio in wins over No. 25 Texas Tech and UCF. The senior guard scored a career- high 29 points and set a personal best and Fertitta Center record with 12 field goals against the Red Raiders. He made two of his first five shots and then drained 10 of his last 11 to help the Cougars snap a two-game losing streak. Shead recorded his second double-digit assist performance of the season and the 12th of his career with only two turnovers. Against UCF, the health major contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals while committing just two turnovers. Shead enjoyed the 104th win of his collegiate career and moved to 56-3 inside Fertitta Center.
 
Kaluma averaged 17.5 points on 52.4 percent shooting, including 54.5 percent from 3-point range, with 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in 38.5 minutes per game in K-State’s wins over Baylor and Oklahoma State. He collected his seventh career double-double, including his team-leading fourth this season, with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds against the No. 9 Bears. Kaluma connected on the game-winning four-point play with 20 seconds left in overtime. The junior forward registered his eighth 20-point game, including his fourth this season, with a game-high 23 points on 7-of-12 field goals, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and 6-of-9 free throws in the win over the Cowboys. He also added a team-high seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in 38 minutes. The nutrition and health major eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in his career with 11 in the first half vs. OSU.
