Texas swept the Big 12 Swimming and Diving weekly awards for the 13
th week of the season as Jake Foster (swimmer), Nick Harris (diver) and Nate Germonprez (newcomer) stockpiled the men’s awards while Kelly Pash (swimmer), Bridget O’Neil (diver) and Erin Gemmell (newcomer) amassed the women’s awards.
Foster picked up his first Conference weekly award of the season and second of his career after winning two events and recording three B-cut times in his first collegiate competitions of the season. The biology major finished with a NCAA-leading B-cut time of 51.22 in the 100 breast before adding another win in the 200 breast (1:53.05) with the 12
th-fastest time in the country the following day. The graduate student also added runner-up and third-place finishes in the 200 medley relay (1:24.41; 23.11 split) and 200 IM (1:45.46), respectively.
Pash stockpiled four individual victories and two top-place relay finishes in a pair of dual meets against No. 10 NC State and No. 17 Duke. The corporate communications major set two pool records at NC State in the 200 free (1:42.88) and 200 IM (1:54.47) while helping Texas’ 400 free relay (3:12.22; 48.18 split) set another. The graduate student also added wins in the 500 free (4:45.37) and 100 back (52.60) against No. 17 Duke to end her weekend and secure her eighth Big 12 weekly award of her career and first this season.
Harris took home a combined two first-place results and four top-three placements against No. 3 NC State and Duke. Against the third-ranked Wolfpack, the business major scored 393.53 points on the 1-meter springboard to snag first place and 414.98 points on the 3-meter for runner-up. The sophomore concluded the week with a first-place score of 367.65 on the 1-meter against the Blue Devils and a third-place score of 402.15 on the 3-meter. Harris has garnered the Conference’s weekly honor four times this season and eight times over his career.
O’Neil swept the springboards at No. 10 NC State with scores of 342.98 in the 1-meter and 354.23 in the 3-meter. The speech and language pathology major added another win the next day against Duke in the 3-meter (355.43) as well as a runner-up finish on the 1-meter (305.03). She has been named the Big 12 Women’s Diver of the Week three times in her senior year and 10 times in her career.
Germonprez collected his third Conference award of this season and second Big 12 Men’s Newcomer of the Week. The freshman business major finished with a pair of individual top-two results, including a win in the 200 free with a season-best and B-cut time of 1:34.98. He also earned a second-place finish in the 200 IM (1:44.40) and a trio of relay results that placed in the top-three (200 medley relay, 400 free relay and 200 free relay).
Gemmell rounded out the awards with her second Big 12 Women’s Newcomer of the Week this season. The freshman business major finished with three top-two individual placements, including a pair of wins in the 100 free (48.70) and 500 free (4:40.40). She also tacked on a runner-up result in the 200 free (1:43.52) against No. 10 NC State to shore up her individual events. In her relays, she anchored Texas’ 400 free relay (3:12.22, 47.55 split) that set the Wolfpack’s pool record as well as the 200 medley relay (1:37.34, 22.01 split) that finished third against Duke.
