BYU’s Mackenzee Vance (co-offensive) and Mika Krommenhoek (freshman) along with Texas Tech’s Taylor Zdrojewski (co-offensive) and Faith Nguyen (goalkeeper) landed two Big 12 soccer weekly honor selections for their programs while Kansas’ Mackenzie Boeve claimed Defensive Player of the Week.
Vance tallied two goals that helped the Cougars to a 1-0-1 record during the third week of league play. Down 2-1 to Oklahoma State with 17 minutes left, the junior scored the game-tying goal in the 76
th minute. She then knocked in the Cougars’ final goal in the 3-1 win over Iowa State as her third goal in a BYU uniform. Vance, a transfer from UCLA, earned her first Big 12 weekly accolade while being the second BYU defender to clinch a defensive honor this season.
Zdrojewski held a role in three of four goals scored by the Red Raiders last week. She assisted on both goals during the 2-1 victory over K-State, the first multiple-assist performance of her collegiate career. The forward logged 74 minutes against Houston and scored the game-winning goal during TTU’s 2-0 shutout. Zdrojewski has recorded three assists this season, surpassing her career-high of two last season. This marks her first Big 12 award and is the second forward from TTU honored this season.
Boeve and the Jayhawks began last week shutting out UCF 4-0. During that match, the KU backline held the Knights to two shots on goal in six shot attempts. Facing its first ranked opponent this season, KU held then-No. 16 Colorado to four shots on goal as the Buffaloes took a 1-0 win. Boeve collects her second career defensive weekly award since earning it during the 2022 season.
Nguyen earned Goalkeeper of the Week for the second consecutive week after posting two wins, marking the first time a TTU goalie has accomplished the feat since the 2022 season. She tallied two saves during the 2-1 victory over K-State, followed by her six saves against Houston to end the week with a goals against average of .889. The 2-0 victory over the Cougars was her sixth clean sheet this season.
Krommenhoek became the first Cougar to earn Big 12 soccer’s Freshman of the Week award during the team’s second season in the league. She posted her first collegiate goal in the fourth minute during the 2-2 draw with Oklahoma State. The Mapleton, Utah native then recorded her first career assists as she dished out a pair in BYU’s 3-1 home win over Iowa State to end her week with four points.
