BYU’s Halladay-Lowry & TTU’s Cheruiyot Tabbed Big 12 Runners of the Week

BYU’s Lexy Halladay-Lowry (women’s) and Texas Tech’s Ernest Cheruiyot (men’s) were tabbed the Big 12 Runners of the Week for the sixth week of the season.

Halladay-Lowry finished the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite with the top overall time in the 5k. The senior clocked a personal-best time of 15:57.5, six seconds ahead of the runner-up, to earn her second career victory and help BYU finish second overall in the women’s standings. The fifth-ranked Cougars finished with 65 points, edging out the third-ranked Fighting Irish by five points (70) at the Burke Golf Course in Notre Dame, Indiana. It is the second cross country Conference weekly award in BYU women’s program history after Jenna Hutchins earned the recognition on September 17.

Cheruiyot won the men’s 8k at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite in a blistering time of 22:20.30. The sophomore from Kericho, Kenya ended with a time over four seconds faster than the second-place competitor. He was one of 17 athletes that finished under 23 minutes and has now won two races this season as well as finishing runner-up in another. It is his second Conference award of the season and the first Red Raider to earn multiple in a single season since Miguel Bautista did so in 2016.
