ARIZ and ASU Share Big 12 Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards

Arizona State collected the four weekly swimming awards while Arizona earned the two diving awards for the sixth week of the season. Ilya Kharun (men’s swimmer), Lucien Vergnes (men’s newcomer), Caroline Bentz (women’s swimmer) and Julia Ullmann (women’s newcomer) earned the weekly honors for the Sun Devils while Gage DuBois (men’s diver) and Brooke Earley (women’s diver) represented the Wildcats.
 
Kharun collected his third Conference weekly award of the season as he earned a gold medal in each of his three individual events against No. 1 California and No. 9 Stanford. The sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada finished with times of 44.01 (100 fly), 1:39.60 (200 fly) and 18.67 (50 free) against the top 10 ranked competition. He added another three gold medals in the 200 medley (19.12 split; 1:21.83), 200 free (18.62 split; 1:14.35) and 400 free relays (20.04 split; 2:46.68).
 
Bentz tallied three podium finishes in individual events against No. 4 Stanford and No. 9 California, as the graduate student finished second in both the 100 back (52.99) and 200 back (1:54.70) and third in the 100 free (49.18). The King George, Virginia native added another runner-up finish as the lead-off swimmer on ASU’s 200 free relay (22.31 split; 1:29.64) and a bronze medal in the 200 medley relay (1:36.83) as the anchor leg. The award is her fourth honor of the season and second Big 12 Women’s Swimmer of the Week.
 
Dubois earned the silver medal on both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives as Arizona took on No. 21 USC. The junior recorded a score of 357.25 on the 1-meter dive and 349.85 on the 3-meter to earn his first Conference weekly award.
 
Earley swept all four of her events against No. 9 USC and No. 22 UCLA to complete a perfect 4-0 weekend. The senior swept both events in both meets she competed in, including a 15-point victory in the 3-meter dive (294.90) against the ninth-ranked Trojans. She added a 298.45 score on the 1-meter to complete the meet against USC. Against the Bruins, Earley finished nearly 20 points higher than second-place on both the 1-meter (298.45) and 3-meter (294.90) events. It is the first Conference award this season.
 
Vergnes secured the 100 back title with the fifth-fastest time in the country this season (45.32) before adding a runner-up result in the 100 breast (52.29). The freshman added a silver medal in the 200 back (1:42.32) and a bronze medal in the 200 IM (1:45.36) before rounding out his meet with a gold in the 200 medley relay as the backstroke leg (1:21.83). It is his second Big 12 Men’s Newcomer of the Season.
 
Ullmann clocked a personal-best time of 52.05 in the 100 fly, good for the 12th fastest time this season. The freshman also added a second-place result with the 200 free relay (1:29.64) and two bronze medals in the 400 free relay (3:17.29) and 200 medley relay (1:36.83). It is her first Conference weekly award of her career.
