Iowa State’s Angelina Allen (Player) and Texas’ Teagan Kavan (Pitcher) earned Big 12 softball awards for the fourth week of the season (Feb. 26-March 3). Allen is ISU’s first player of the week since Sami Williams secured the honor March 2, 2021 while Kavan is UT’s fifth award winner this season.
 
Allen tallied 13 hits in her 19 at-bats for a .684 batting average with eight of her hits being for extra bases. The 2023 Academic All-Big 12 First Team member had her second multi-homer game of the season and recorded multiple hits in all five of her games. The junior avoided striking out and drew two walks while slugging 1.526. Allen led the Big 12 in hits, runs scored (8), home runs (4), doubles (4) and total bases (29) for the week. Allen currently leads the league for the season in batting average (.543), hits (38) and total bases (70).
 
Kavan tossed her second career seven-inning complete shutout as the freshman held Texas State to just two hits while she matched her career high of nine strikeouts in a 1-0 UT victory. The advertising major threw three scoreless innings against Hofstra to extend her streak to 25 consecutive innings without allowing a run. Kavan’s .121 opponent batting average was the lowest by any Big 12 pitcher who faced 30 or more batters throughout the week.
