Thirty-one Big 12 players were selected in the 2024 NFL Draft conducted in Detroit to give the Conference 743 all-time picks. Texas DT Byron Murphy II and WR Xavier Worthy were joined by Oklahoma OL Tyler Guyton as first round selections.
Murphy was the second defensive player and first defensive tackle chosen in this year’s draft as the No. 16 selection by the Seattle Seahawks. Worthy went to the world champion Kansas City Chiefs as the 28
th pick while Guyton was selected 29
th by the Dallas Cowboys. The three selections give the Big 12 a total of 98 first-round picks in its history.
Murphy and Worthy increased Texas’ number of all-time first round draft selections to 47. It is the second consecutive year in which a Longhorn was selected in the first round following running back Bijan Robinson's selection in 2023 by the Atlanta Falcons. Murphy is the first Texas defensive lineman taken in the first round since Malcom Brown was selected 32nd overall by New England in 2015. He is the 25th Texas defensive lineman taken in the NFL Draft since 2000. The Chiefs traded up to select Worthy who was the fastest player in NFL Combine history with a record-breaking 4.21 time in the 40-yard dash. He is the first Longhorn wide receiver selected in the first round since Roy Williams in 2004 (7th/Lions) and just the third Texas wide receiver taken in the first round in the history of the common draft (Johnny "Lam" Jones/2nd/Jets/1980).
Guyton is OU’s 49th first-round pick and the program’s sixth first-round selection in the last seven seasons. The 6-8, 330-pounder is the Sooners’ second straight offensive tackle taken in the first round (Anton Harrison went No. 27 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023) and the 12th OU offensive lineman (eighth tackle) drafted in the 10 years Bill Bedenbaugh has served as the Sooners’ offensive line coach. He spent his first two collegiate seasons at TCU.
