The Big 12 had six softball student-athletes selected to the TUCCI/NFCA DI Freshman of the Year Top 25 list, twice as many as any other conference.
Ella Parker (OU), Kasidi Pickering (OU), Rosie Davis (OSU), Karli Godwin (OSU), Kayden Henry (UT) and Teagan Kavan (UT) were announced as honorees. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas are three of four schools nationally with two players on the list.
On May 9, the list will be trimmed to the top 10 and the three finalists will be released on May 23. The winner will be revealed on May 28.
The list of 25 was selected by the NFCA. The top 10, top three and winner are voted on by the NFCA Division I All-America Committee. To be eligible, student-athletes must be nominated by their member head coach and in their first year of NCAA Division I collegiate competition as a true freshman or redshirt freshman. Nominated student-athletes remain in consideration for Top-10 selection.
The six Big 12 players have helped lead each of their teams to a top four ranking in both the USA Today/NFCA and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 polls. The Big 12 is the only league to have multiple teams in the top four of either poll.
All three teams remain in the hunt for the 2024 Big 12 Softball regular season title and will compete in the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship.
The Championship returns to Oklahoma City’s USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium at OGE Energy Field, the home of the Women’s College World Series, from May 8-11. All 10 Conference softball teams will compete in the single-elimination format with the top-six finishing regular season teams receiving a first-round bye.
