Oklahoma State’s Caroline Wang (Player) and Texas’ Estelle Czech (Pitcher) collected weekly Conference honors for their efforts during the ninth week of the season (April 1-7). Wang led the Cowgirls to a road win against North Texas and a sweep of Houston while Czech powered the Longhorns to a series victory over No. 1 Oklahoma. UT became the first team to take a league series over OU since 2011. This is the first career Big 12 weekly honor for either player.

Both student-athletes also earned national honors as Wang was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week while Czech was selected as the Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week. This is the second consecutive week the Big 12 has swept both awards and the third overall time this season. 

In the three games at Houston, Wang went a combined 7-for-9 (.778) with two doubles, four home runs and 10 RBIs. In Sunday’s 10-2 OSU victory, the senior became the first Cowgirl to record seven RBIs in a game since Madi Sue Simpson on Feb. 22, 2019 and became the 33^rd Cowgirl in school history to launch multiple home runs in the same game. Wang elevated her home run total to 15 on the season which is tied for the most in the league. The two-time ASUN Player of the Year also now has the most home runs in a single season by a catcher in OSU history.

Against an Oklahoma offense that entered last weekend leading the nation with a .394 team batting average and a Big 12-leading 9.20 runs per game, Czech tossed six scoreless innings in her two appearances. The senior helped the Longhorns take their first series over the Sooners since 2009 while being the only qualified Big 12 pitcher in Week 9 to not surrender a run. Czech allowed just three singles, didn’t walk a batter, struck out three and finished with a .150 opponent batting average. The Physical Culture & Sports major entered with two outs in the top of the fourth and threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn her fifth win of the season in Sunday’s series clincher. Czech is the third different Longhorn to win Pitcher of the Week this season, the first time in program history three different UT pitchers have won the award in the same season.
