Big 12 with Three Top Five Seeds, Five Total Teams Selected to 2024 NCAA Softball Regionals

For the first time in the league’s history, the Big 12 has the top two national seeds in the NCAA Softball Championship as Texas was selected as the top seed and Oklahoma the No. 2 seed. The Conference has three of the top five national seeds with Oklahoma State earning the No. 5 overall seed. Baylor and UCF round out the league’s selections.

The five teams selected are the most for the league since 2021 and the Big 12 is one of three leagues to have at least 50% of its teams make the field. This is the fifth straight NCAA Championship that the nation’s top seed has been a Big 12 team and is the ninth time in the last 10 tournaments that at least 50% of the Conference has made Regionals.

It marks the first top overall seed for the Longhorns (47-7, 23-4) and the first time since 2011 that UT has been a top-three seed. Texas, the Big 12 regular season champion, will host Siena on Friday at 3 p.m. CT on Longhorn Network. UT and the Saints are joined by Big Ten regular season champion Northwestern and Saint Francis (Pennsylvania).

No. 2 seed Oklahoma (49-6, 22-5), the Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Champion, plays Friday at 7 p.m. CT on ESPNU against Cleveland State in Norman. The three-time defending national champions have made the NCAA Tournament each year since 1994, hosted each season since 2011 and have advanced to Super Regionals each year since 2010. The Sooners will also host Oregon and Boston University.

No. 5 seed Oklahoma State (44-10, 21-6) plays Friday at 4:30 p.m. CT against Northern Colorado on ESPN+. It is the Cowgirls’ fifth consecutive season hosting as they look to advance to a fifth straight Super Regional. Michigan and Kentucky will join OSU and UNC in Stillwater.

Baylor (32-20, 14-13) will head to the Lafayette Regional and take on Ole Miss Friday at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN2. The Bears and Rebels are joined by host and 13th-seeded Louisiana and Princeton. This is Baylor’s first time making the tournament in back-to-back years since an eight-year run from 2011-18.

UCF (30-23, 12-15) stays in-state as the Knights were placed in the Tallahassee regional and will take on Auburn at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT on ESPNU. UCF and the Tigers are paired with 15th-seeded Florida State and Chattanooga. This is the fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship for the Knights and the first as a member of the Big 12.

All regionals are double-elimination and will begin Friday, May 17. The full bracket can be found here.
