Arizona’s Nicole Dallin (Offensive), BYU’s Lynette Hernaez (Co-Goalkeeper), Oklahoma State’s Mollie Breiner (Defensive) and Grace Gordon (Co-Goalkeeper) along with Utah’s Bella Woods (Freshman) collected the first soccer weekly award of the 2024 season.
Dallin knocked in five goals in two matches as Arizona went 2-0 during the opening week. She recorded a four-goal performance in the 5-0 win over Pacific, making her the first Wildcat to score a hat trick or better since 2014 and the fourth to score at least four goals in a contest. The graduate student went 4-for-4 in shots on Sunday to conclude her week with 10 points, tying with two other players as the nation’s points leader. She also scored the lone goal in the 1-0 win over Grand Canyon.
Breiner helped Oklahoma State record shutouts against No. 6 Nebraska (2-0) and Oral Roberts (1-0). Facing a longtime foe on the road, the Cowgirl defense faced 22 shots, nine corner kicks and four shots on goal from the Cornhuskers. The team then held Oral Roberts to four shots on goal. As an OSU defensive leader, Breiner was the only Cowgirl field player to play all 180 minutes on the pitch for the team. This is the second career weekly award for the senior.
Hernaez tallied six saves during her first shutout of the season as BYU defended its home turf with a 1-0 win over then-No. 19 Wisconsin. In the season opener, her biggest save of the match came when the Badgers were given a penalty kick in the 60
th minute. Hernaez prevented a goal with a diving effort before collecting two more saves to end the contest. It is the second Big 12 honor for the sophomore after she collected one Goalkeeper of the Week award last season.
Gordon earned two wins and two shutouts last week. Her four saves against Nebraska led OSU to its first win over a top-10 opponent since 2020. Additionally, she grabbed another three against Oral Roberts to tally seven saves between the two matches. Gordon recorded her eighth career shutout, placing her at No. 7 in the Cowgirl record book.
Woods clinched the first Big 12 weekly award for Utah following a last-minute goal that led to the team’s first win of the season. Tied 1-1 with Gonzaga, the freshman converted a free kick in the 90
th minute to take the lead.
