ASU, UC and TCU Claim Big 12 Volleyball & National Awards for Week Three

TCU’s Melanie Parra (offensive), Arizona State’s Mary Shroll (defensive) and Cincinnati’s Faith Frame (rookie) procured Conference honors for the third week of the season. Parra is the first player to win three consecutive Offensive Player of the Week titles to start the season since 2020 and is one of just three players in Conference history to accomplish the feat. Parra was also named the AVCA/GameChanger Division I Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, making her the first player in Division I women’s volleyball history to win the award in back-to-back weeks.

Parra led the nation with 8.0 points per set and 7.30 kills per set during the week which included a 3-0 TCU record with a victory over a UCLA team that was receiving votes in the AVCA Poll. The Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year was named the Fight in the Fort’s best attacker after recording a blistering 73 kills on a .364 clip. She broke the Horned Frog three-set program record with 23 kills against Texas A&M Commerce before tacking on 17 kills in the nightcap against Prairie View A&M. The senior from Sinaloa, Mexico was dominant against the Bruins, posting 33 kills on a .373 hitting percentage. Parra added 16 digs, five blocks and four aces during the week.

Shroll is ASU’s first Big 12 volleyball weekly award winner after recording 4.78 digs per set during the week which included posting double-digit digs in all three matches. The graduate student in Business Analytics helped the Sun Devils post wins over Wichita State and Long Beach State and had 16 digs (5.33 digs per set) against a top-five Nebraska team in Lincoln.

Frame averaged a league-leading 5.14 digs per set in a 2-0 week for UC. The native of Gretna, Nebraska posted a career-high 27 digs in the Bearcats’ four-set win over crosstown rival Xavier. The 27 digs were the most in a match by a Conference player during the week and were the most in a four-set match in the league this season. Frame is Cincinnati’s second weekly Big 12 award winner, joining Zeta Washington (rookie) from Sept. 5, 2023.
