IRVING, Texas – Arizona State, BYU and Houston had multiple award winners as UCF and TCU rounded out the Big 12 Football weekly honors. ASU’s Jordyn Tyson and Houston’s Conner Weigman were offensive honorees while TCU’s Kaleb Elarms-Orr and BYU’s Tanner Wall earned accolades on defense. The kicker tandem of Jesus Gomez from ASU and Ethan Sanchez from Houston took home special teams awards while BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier was named Freshman of the Week. Houston had the Offensive Line of the Week, and UCF took home Defensive Line of the Week for Week Eight.
Tyson tallied 10 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown as Arizona State knocked off then-No. 7 Texas Tech, 26-22, in Tempe. The wideout made a number of key plays, including a 33-yard catch on fourth down on ASU’s game-winning drive at the end of regulation. Tyson has now scored a touchdown in the last eight games he’s played in, which is the longest active streak by a position player in FBS.
Becoming the first Houston quarterback with three passing touchdowns, a rushing touchdown and at least 95 yards on the ground in a game since Kevin Kolb in 2003,
Weigman was instrumental in the Cougars’ 31-28 win over Arizona. The Cypress, Texas native’s 98 rushing yards were a career high, averaging seven yards per carry, and helped propel Houston to a 6-1 start this season.
Elarms-Orr became the first Horned Frog with 15 or more tackles in a game since Garret Wallow in 2019 in TCU’s 42-36 win over Baylor on Saturday. His 16 total tackles were tied for the second-most by a Big 12 player this season and were three more than any other Big 12 player in Week Eight. Elarms-Orr has tallied two double-digit tackle performances in his last four games.
Wall is the first BYU player to earn weekly honors on defense this season as he tallied a season-high 10 tackles in the Cougars’ win over rival, then-No. 23 Utah. In addition to the double-digit tackles, the senior safety also intercepted Utah’s Devon Dampier in the fourth quarter that set up BYU’s final scoring drive of the game.
Gomez earned weekly accolades for the third time this season with his 4-for-4 field goal performance in the Sun Devils’ 26-22 victory over then-No. 7 Texas Tech. Saturday marked his second game of four made field goals this season as he became the first kicker in the FBS this season to make four field goals against a Top-25 team. Gomez connected from 26, 28, 34 and 47 yards out in addition to a pair of extra points.

Sanchez’s 41-yard make as time expired clinched Houston’s win over Arizona. The senior also added four extra points on Saturday to remain a perfect 21-for-21 on the season. With 15 made field goals in seven games this season, Sanchez is already in the top 12 in UH single-season history in field goals.
Bachmeier earned his fourth consecutive Big 12 Freshman of the Week award, and fifth of the season, as he guided BYU to a 24-21 victory over then-No. 23 Utah. He threw for 166 yards and a score while rushing for 64 yards and a touchdown without committing a turnover. Facing 3rd-and-11 late in the rivalry game, Bachmeier scored on a 22-yard run, breaking a number of tackles on his way to the endzone.
Houston’s offensive line helped pave the way for a 396-yard day for the Cougars and did not allow a sack in their 31-28 win versus Arizona. Houston rushed for 232 yards against the Wildcats, which was the program’s most ever in a Big 12 game. The line’s performance on Saturday also helped secure weekly honors for quarterback Conner Weigman.
UCF won Big 12 Defensive Line of the Week honors for the first time this season after limiting West Virginia to 210 yards of total offensive. The unit accounted for seven of the Knights’ eight sacks against the Mountaineers, which was one shy of a program record. UCF’s eight sacks also tied for the second-most by an FBS team this season.
