TCU’s Evan Hendrix (offensive), Arizona State’s Colby Neal (defensive), and BYU’s Suli Davis (rookie) were named the Big 12 Volleyball Players of the Week for the fourth week of Conference play.
Hendrix helped the Horned Frogs to two more conference wins by leading the Conference in kills per set and total kills for the week. The sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz. finished with 6.63 kills per set, the second-most in the country, and 53 total kills, the third-most nationally for the week. She also notched a Conference-leading 57.5 points (third-most nationally) with an average of 7.19 points per set (second-most in the country). Hendrix has aided TCU to its best start in Big 12 play in program history (6-1) and a perfect 10-0 home record. The outside hitter has posted nine straight double-doubles, including a career-high 27 kills and 23 digs against Kansas State this week. She is now one of only three players in TCU history to record 20+ kills and 20+ digs in the same match since 2000. This is Hendrix’s second Big 12 weekly honor of the season.
Neal anchored the Sun Devils’ defense with a career-high 10 blocks in the win at then-No. 19 BYU and tied the match high with six blocks in the win at Utah. The graduate middle blocker helped Arizona State reach double-digit blocks in both matches, including a season-high 16.5 against BYU. The Sun Devils extended their winning streak to 10 matches and their conference streak to 23, the fourth-longest in the country. Neal’s 1.78 blocks per set ranked second in the Big 12 last week while her 16 blocks led the Conference and were the fourth most nationally. This is her first Big 12 weekly award of the season.
Davis led BYU offensively with 44 kills (5.5 per set) on a .320 hitting percentage, posting game highs in both of the Cougars’ matches for the week. She had the second-most kills (44), kills per set (5.50), points (46.5) and points per set (5.81) in the Big 12 this week. The freshman’s 25 kill, 11 dig performance against then-No. 7 Arizona State marked her third double-double and the third time she tallied 20 or more kills this season. Davis has now reached double figures in kills in 18 matches, including 16 straight. This is the third Big 12 weekly award this season for the outside hitter.
