BYU’s Jane Hedengren (women’s) and TTU’s Titus Kimaru (men’s) earned Big 12 Runners of the Week accolades.
Kimaru won the Arturo Barrios Invitational, winning his third race in four meets. The freshman from Kenya traversed the 8K course in 22:36.1, with a 16-second gap to his nearest competitor. This is Kimaru’s third time earning conference honors this season, marking the first time since 2012 that an athlete has achieved this feat.
On the women’s side, Hedengren outpaced her competition in her collegiate debut with a time of 18:42.3 at the Gan Creek Cross Country Course. The Provo, Utah native created a 23.5-second gap to earn her first race win and led the No.1 BYU squad to its third consecutive meet title. Hedengran was also named the USTFCCCA National Co-Athlete of the Week, becoming the third Cougar in program history to earn the award. This is the freshman’s first time picking up conference honors.
