Arizona’s Koa Peat (co-player and newcomer) and Texas Tech’s Christian Anderson (co-player) took home Big 12 men’s basketball weekly awards for the opening week of the 2025-26 season. In addition, BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, Cincinnati’s Baba Miller and Kansas’ Darryn Peterson join Peat and Anderson in the inaugural Big 12 Starting Five, which highlights other strong performances from across the Conference. Honorees were determined by a panel of media who cover Big 12 basketball.
Peat announced his presence to the nation with a 30-point, 5-assist debut against No. 3/3 Florida, the first such opening game by a freshman in Big 12 history. The freshman from Chandler, Arizona added seven rebounds, three steals and a block in the Wildcats’ 93-87 win that snapped the Gators’ 12-game winning streak, dating back to last season. The forward followed with 18 points, three rebounds and three assists in Arizona’s 93-67 blowout of Utah Tech.
Anderson had a 34-point, 11-assist opener against Lindenwood (Mo.), finishing the week with averages of 26.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 3.5 steals, leading the Red Raiders to a 2-0 start. The season-opener marked the first double-double for the guard from Atlanta, and was the first 30-point, 10-assist game in Texas Tech program history. In the 98-77 win against Sam Houston, the sophomore added 18 points, seven assists and three steals. It marks his first Big 12 weekly honor.
