Posting a perfect 5-0 mark, Oklahoma’s Carter Schubert claimed the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honor after winning the 174-pound title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Schubert dispatched three competitors, only giving up two points through his first three matches. In the semifinals, he edged out No. 24 Moses Espinoza-Owens of South Dakota State in a narrow 2-1 bout to earn a trip to the finals. The redshirt sophomore won the title with a 5-4 decision over Navy’s No. 7 Danny Wask, earning his first CKLV career crown.
Schubert becomes the second Sooner this season to earn a weekly honor, joining senior DJ Parker, who was selected two weeks ago. The Sooners will return to the mat against Rutgers on December 13.
