Texas Tech Earns No. 4 Seed in CFP as Eight Big 12 Teams Enter Postseason

IRVING, Texas – By earning the No. 4 seed, Texas Tech punched its ticket to the College Football Playoff and will play in the Capital One Orange Bowl in Miami on Thursday, Jan. 1. The Red Raiders are one of eight Big 12 teams who will compete in a bowl game, joined by Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, TCU and Utah as the Conference’s bowl-bound teams.

Texas Tech will face first round winner of No. 12 James Madison and No. 5 Oregon at 11 a.m. CT on New Year’s Day at Hard Rock Stadium on ESPN. The remainder of the Big 12 bowl lineup will feature six games against Power Four opponents, with three games versus the ACC, two against the Big Ten and one match-up with the SEC.

Postseason play for Big 12 teams kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 27 with the Pop-Tarts Bowl, featuring BYU versus Georgia Tech, alongside Houston’s match-up with LSU in the Kinder’s Texas Bowl.
