KU, K-State and WVU Collect Big 12 Baseball Weekly Recognition

Kansas’ Jackson Hauge (player), West Virginia’s Chase Meyer (pitcher) and Kansas State’s AJ Evasco (newcomer) collected the Big 12 Baseball weekly awards for games ending March 16.

Hauge ended the week with two multi-homer games including hitting the fifth consecutive homer to tie the NCAA record for the Jayhawks against Minnesota. The senior designated hitter finished 8-for-19 (.421) with four doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI, six runs, seven walks and a 1.856 OPS. He leads the Conference and is tied for third nationally with 11 long balls this season. The Ramsey, Minnesota native also leads the Big 12 in RBI (32) and total bases (63) this season. In Kansas’ record-tying game against the Gophers, Hauge drove in a career-high 7 RBI as Kansas tied its single-game program record with seven home runs. It is the first time the Jayhawks have won their opening Conference series in back-to-back seasons since 2013-14.

Meyer notched two wins in two games as the Mountaineers defeated Towson and Oklahoma State. The sophomore right-handed pitcher struck out 12 batters in a combined 5.2 innings without surrendering a single hit. Meyer struck out three in 2.0 innings against Towson before tossing 3.2 hitless, scoreless innings on the road against Oklahoma State. Against the Cowboys, he struck out nine of the 12 batters he faced to secure his second win of the week and fourth of the season.

Evasco led the Wildcats to their first Conference-opening series sweep since 2010 against Utah. The freshman infielder drove in a team-leading eight RBI against the Utes as he went 7-for-12 (.583). For the week, he finished 9-for-20 with eight runs, two doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI. In Kansas State’s game against Creighton, Evasco recorded his first collegiate grand slam before ending the week with his fourth homer of the season to secure the run-rule victory over Utah.
