K-State and TCU are set for the regional semifinal round of the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.
The Wildcats secured their fourth Sweet 16 appearance and their first since 2002 following an 80-79 overtime thriller over fourth-seeded Kentucky. The Horned Frogs are making their first trip to the Sweet 16 after a 15-point victory over seventh-seeded Louisville.
Both teams will play Saturday, March 29 with TCU taking on third-seeded Notre Dame in Birmingham, Alabama at Noon CT on ABC, and K-State facing top-seeded Southern California at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN from Spokane, Washington.
The Big 12 has now sent multiple teams to the Sweet 16 in four of the last five tournaments and it’s the 22nd time in the previous 25 tournaments that the league has had at least two teams in the regional semifinals, tied for the second-highest percentage (88%) of any league during that span.
With the win over Kentucky in the second round, K-State tied for the second-most wins in program history and the most since the 2002-03 season. The 54 combined wins over the last two seasons are tied for the second most over a two-season span in program history.
The Wildcats were led against UK by Temira Poindexter’s eight made 3-pointers, tied for the most all-time in an NCAA Tournament game by a Big 12 player. The eight made 3-pointers are also tied for the second most all-time by any player in a single game at the NCAA Championship.
TCU won its second round contest in front of the largest home crowd to ever attend a TCU women’s sporting event (7,494).
Madison Conner (TCU) now ranks second in Big 12 history for made 3-pointers in a single season (125), just six shy of the all-time mark (131). As a team, TCU sits just 12 made 3-pointers away from tying the all-time single-season league record (357).
In addition, Texas Tech won its first two games of the WBIT to advance to the quarterfinals with a road matchup against No. 3 seed Florida locked in for Thursday, March 27 at 5 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
