GREEN BAY, Wisc. – For the second time in the last three NFL Drafts, the Big 12 Conference had multiple picks in the top eight as Jacksonville selected Colorado athlete Travis Hunter second overall and Carolina chose Arizona wideout Tetairoa McMillan with the No. 8 pick.
Hunter, the Heisman Trophy winner, was selected second overall by the Jaguars and matched the Buffaloes’ highest ever draft pick. The Suwanee, Georgia native was the Big 12 Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year while earning First Team All-Big 12 honors on offense and defense, becoming the first Big 12 player ever to receive all-conference accolades on both sides of the ball. He was also named the AP’s National Player of the Year, received the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s top defensive player and won the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the top wide receiver in the country.
McMillan came off the board six selections later as the Panthers chose the Arizona wide receiver with its first-round pick. The Hawai’i native was a First Team All-Big 12 selection and Biletnikoff Award finalist while becoming the Wildcats’ all-time receiving leader with 3,423 yards in three seasons. He ranked in the top 10 nationally last season in receptions (84), receiving yards (1,319) and receiving touchdowns (eight). McMillan was one of the Conference’s three consensus All-Americans in 2024.
Hunter and McMillan represent two of the three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award last season. The duo gave the Big 12 two wide receivers in the first round of the NFL Draft for a second time in the last decade. The 2025 NFL Draft will continue at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, April 25 with rounds two and three.
