Kansas’ Alexander Jung (men’s) and Oklahoma State’s Annie Molenhouse (women’s) were named this week’s Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
Jung competed in the men’s decathlon at the Jim Click Shootout & Multis, earning second place after collecting 7,738 points in ten events. The senior set a school record and had a career-best performance as he surpassed his previous record of 7,706 that he posted to claim the men’s decathlon title at the Big 12 Championship last year. His mark is only 34 points behind the nation’s leader, whom he competed against at the Jim Click Shootout. This is the Saarlouis, Germany native’s first Big 12 weekly honor, and he is the first Jayhawk from the men’s program to earn an outdoor weekly award since the 2021 season.
On the women’s side at the Jim Click Shootout, Molenhouse claimed the gold in the women’s heptathlon with a personal record of 5,641 points. She finished in the top three in all seven, only rounding out her performance with one third-place finish. The junior won the title by more than 100 points and owns the NCAA’s best mark in the event this season. Molenhouse earns her first Big 12 award while being the Cowgirls' second award winner this season following last week’s selection.
