LAWRENCE, Kan. – BYU held its lead on the men’s side, while a strong performance boosted the Cougars to the No. 1 spot in the women’s standings after the second day of the 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Rock Chalk Park.
The Texas Tech men remained at No. 2 with 46 points while Houston entered the top three with 30 points, followed by No. 4 Iowa State with 27 points and Cincinnati rounding out the top five with 24.33 points.
BYU led the women’s side with 49.5 points with a half point separating No. 2 Baylor and No. 3 Oklahoma State at 38.5 and 38 points, respectively. The Red Raiders sit at No. 4 with 29 points and 24 points placed TCU in the No. 5 spot.
The 3,000-meter steeplechase, the final event scheduled for both sides on Friday, resulted in two Big 12 record-setting performances. BYU’s James Corrigan rounded out Friday’s event winners for the Cougar men as he smashed his Big 12 meet record from last year by six seconds, finishing the men’s 3,000 steeplechase at 8:22.20.
Sarah Tait collected West Virginia’s fourth 3,000-meter steeplechase crown in five seasons. Her mark of 9:44.72 shattered the previous record time of 9:56.53, set by Olympian Emma Coburn (Colorado) in 2010.
Friday’s slate began with the conclusion of the women’s heptathlon and the men’s decathlon.
Annie Molenhouse collected Friday’s first gold medal after leading a quartet of Cowgirls who all finished in the top eight in the heptathlon, totaling 5,729 to win her first Big 12 crown and claim OSU’s first Big 12 title in the seven-series combined event.
BYU’s Ben Barton claimed the men’s decathlon with 7,865 points after placing within the top three finishes in six of 10 events.
Baylor’s Alexis Brown swept the women’s long jump this season, defending her outdoor title with a personal-best jump of 7.03 meters. She also won the event at the Big 12 and NCAA indoor championships. Molly Haywood was the second Bear on Friday to defend her title with a clearance of 4.52 meters in the women’s pole vault.
KeAyla Dove became Houston’s first student-athlete to collect back-to-back Conference event titles in the same event during the indoor and outdoor seasons. The senior won the women’s shot put with a throw of 18.14 meters, the only competitor in the field to throw over 58 feet.
Cincinnati’s Fred Moudani-Likibi collected the Bearcats’ first men’s shot put title as his second throw of 202.28 meters was the event’s leader.
BJ Jennings clinched TTU’s first Big 12 men’s high jump title since 2017 with a clearance of 2.22 meters to set a personal record for the sophomore.
Reinaldo Rodrigues closed out Friday by earning Arizona’s first overall Big 12 outdoor gold medal, claiming the men’s long jump after clearing 7.64 meters during his second jump.
The Championship’s final day begins at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday with the men’s discus throw. A champion will be named following a total of 26 events between the men’s and women’s competition.
