Five Soccer Programs Garner Big 12 Soccer Weekly Awards

Baylor’s Olivia Hess (co-freshman), Kansas’ Mary Sola (co-freshman), TCU’s Morgan Brown (offensive), Texas Tech’s Macy Blackburn (defensive) and West Virginia’s Bailey Herfurth (goalkeeper) earned Big 12 soccer’s weekly honors for games played during Week Four.

Brown’s first goal of the season helped the Horned Frogs claim their first road win in Austin against in-state rival Texas since 2009. The midfielder’s lone shot on goal landed through the net in the 84th minute, giving the team a 3-2 victory as the game was deadlocked 2-2 since the 55th minute. The Wylie, Texas native also dished out an assist to get TCU on the scoreboard. This is the first weekly award for the 2024 All-Big 12 First Team selection.

Blackburn collected three points as TTU shut out SMU 3-0. The Red Raider defense only allowed the Mustangs one shot on goal in nine shot opportunities. Blackburn played a role in both goals, providing an assist, followed by her first goal of the 2025 campaign, which brought her career total to 50 points. The redshirt-senior is the 11th player from TTU to accomplish the feat, while she collected her second weekly honor this season.

Herfurth played all 180 minutes in the net for the Mountaineers, earning two shutouts during her first two starts for the season. She secured four saves against Duquesne and recorded three saves against Dayton as the WVU defense held both teams to a combined seven shots on goal in 14 shot attempts. Herfurth has not conceded a goal this season in four appearances and in her 10 career appearances at WVU.

Hess scored the game-winning goal as the Bears earned a 2-0 victory over then-No. 17/18 Mississippi State, marking Baylor’s first ranked win since 2021. Her goal in the fourth minute was the freshman’s only shot during the match as she recorded a season-high 84 minutes on the pitch. Hess is the first BU player to earn the Freshman of the Week title since the fall portion of the 2020-21 season.

Sola netted the game-tying goal against No. 2/2 Florida State as Rock Chalk Park hosted its third-largest crowd of 2,108 spectators. FSU took an early lead in the 13th minute, but the freshman equalized for the home team in the 26th minute. Ending the match at 1-1, the tie against a No. 1 seed from last year’s NCAA Tournament marked the Jayhawks’ first result against a Top-2 ranked opponent in program history. Sola also registered 41 minutes during the 3-1 win over Drake as KU remains unbeaten at 4-0-2 to start the season.
