IRVING, Texas – After a recent move to the 157-pound weight class, Arizona State redshirt sophomore Kaleb Larkin was voted Big 12 Wrestler of the Week by the Conference’s coaches. Larkin defeated two of the nation’s top three wrestlers at 157 pounds during ASU’s matches versus Iowa State and West Virginia last week.
He opened the week with a 4-1 decision over No. 3 Vinny Zerban from Iowa State in a match that Larkin controlled from the first whistle. Three days later, Larkin battled top-ranked Ty Watters from West Virginia in a back-and-forth affair. A late takedown in the third period gave Larkin the 4-2 decision.
With two ranked wins at 157 pounds, the Gilbert, Arizona native is now 15-1 on the season. The Sun Devils will return to the mats for a pair of Big 12 matches versus Missouri and at Northern Colorado, beginning on Thursday, Jan. 15 at Desert Financial Arena.
