Arizona State’s Kimberly Smith was tabbed the Big 12’s Gymnast of the Week, followed by Arizona’s Aubrey Krohnfeldt (event specialist) and Utah’s Abbi Ryssman (newcomer), rounding out Week 3’s awards.
Smith helped ASU earn their first win over a ranked team since 2024 as the Gym Devils opened Conference play with a win over then-No. 22 BYU at home. Her all-around score of 39.475 marked a career high for the senior, following event titles in vault (9.850), floor (9.900) and the all-around competition. She also placed second in bars (9.875) and beam (9.850). Headlined by Smith’s floor routine, Arizona State collected the victory (196.050-195.200) in the final rotation with its season-high total of 49.225 in any apparatus. This is her first career Big 12 weekly accolade, picking up ASU’s first Gymnast of the Week title since joining the league in 2024.
Krohnfeldt anchored the uneven bars rotation and registered a career-high 9.900 on the apparatus to win the event. The GymCats posted a season-high tally of 49.225 on bars and claimed its second win of the season, 196.800-195.400 over visiting Towson. The Mesa, Arizona native earned her first Conference award and is the second Wildcat to pick up the honor.
Ryssman defended her weekly award after two second-place finishes in the Utes’ Conference opener at Iowa State. She opened her meet with a 9.85 on bars before setting her career-best 9.925 on the balance beam. The freshman spearheaded three straight beam routines that scored a 9.900 or better, which led to the Red Rocks’ best team score of 49.500 on the apparatus.
Conference duals continue this week with Arizona at No. 23 BYU and Arizona State traveling to No. 14 Utah on Friday, as Iowa State at No. 17 Denver wraps up the week’s slate on Sunday with an afternoon meet on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. CT/3 p.m. MT. Not competing against a Big 12 team this week, West Virginia hosts Cornell and Pittsburgh on Friday.
