Five Soccer Programs Garner Big 12 Soccer Week Nine Awards

UCF’s Ainsley Moy and West Virginia’s Sophia Nickel share Big 12 soccer’s weekly offensive honors, while Texas Tech’s Kylie Bahr secured the defensive accolade. KU’s Sophie Dawe captured her second league honor for goalkeepers this season, and Cincinnati's Brooklynn Schomaker rounded out this week’s awards as the league’s best freshman.

Moy led the Big 12 in points last week with five against TCU and Oklahoma State. The junior dished out her team-leading seventh assist in the 2-1 win over the Horned Frogs before scoring her first career brace to lift the Knights to a 3-1 win over the Cowgirls after a scoreless first half. This is her first Big 12 honor.

Nickel was one of four Big 12 players to record a brace in Week Nine, recording her first career two-goal performance during West Virginia’s 2-0 win over then-No. 20 BYU. The victory was the Mountaineers’ second top-25 win this season, the first time WVU has had multiple wins against ranked teams since 2022. She then played 47 minutes against Utah as WVU claimed a 2-1 win. Nickel was credited with her sixth game-winning goal, which ranks second in the nation, as she captured her second Big 12 weekly award this season.

Bahr played every minute possible in Texas Tech’s two contests against Oklahoma State and TCU. The Red Raider backline held their opponents scoreless last week on five total shots on goal, extending the team’s streak to 373 minutes without allowing a goal. The senior dished out the game-winning assist in Stillwater before scoring the game-winning goal on Sunday that led to TTU’s first win (1-0) in Fort Worth since 2014 during the Conference’s first nationally televised game on ESPN2.

Dawe collects her second Big 12 recognition this season following a perfect 2-0-0 weekend in goal for Kansas. Her five saves held K-State and then-No. 20 Colorado scoreless, which helped her record her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season. Dawe’s seven clean sheets rank second among the league’s goalkeepers, while her .780 save percentage ranks sixth in the league.

Schomaker’s only shot on goal against Utah became her first collegiate goal and her first game-winning goal. The freshman also saw action in the game against BYU to end the week. Schomaker is the second UC player to earn a Big 12 weekly accolade since joining the league in 2023.

Conference play continues this week with all teams playing one game on Friday.
