ASU, UCF, OSU and TTU Open Softball Season, Earning First Big 12 Weekly Awards

Texas Tech’s Mia Williams (player) and Arizona State’s Kenzie Brown (pitcher) earned Big 12 softball’s position awards, while UCF’s Ava Stuewe and Oklahoma State’s Jayelle Austin shared the league’s first-ever softball Freshman of the Week award.

Williams posted a .688 batting average during Opening Week as the Red Raiders captured six wins. The Florida transfer recorded 13 RBI, 12 runs, three home runs and 11 hits, which included the game-winning RBI as No. 2-ranked TTU claimed the 3-2 victory over then-No. 11 Texas A&M. Williams is the first Red Raider to earn the Conference’s Player of the Week award since March 11, 2025.

Brown led the league with 26 strikeouts, throwing 13.1 innings inside the circle for the Sun Devils. Against then-No. 3 Oklahoma, the senior held 29 batters to four hits and allowed two runs. In her other appearances against Texas State and Northwestern, she recorded 13 more strikeouts and allowed only two hits. This is the first Big 12 weekly honor for the 2025 All-Big 12 First Team honoree and the first weekly pitcher award for Arizona State.

Stuewe’s collegiate debut against Boston University included four strikeouts and zero runs in four innings as the Knights’ season opener resulted in a 13-0 victory. Throughout the week, the freshman from Fredericksburg, Texas, pitched 6.2 innings and had a 0.00 ERA.

Austin scored four runs last week while posting a five-game hitting streak to start her collegiate career. Her first game featured a home run and two RBI against Stanford, making her the first player to hit a home run in the Cardinal’s new stadium. She later became the seventh freshman in program history to hit a grand slam as the Cowgirls defeated California 15-2 (Feb. 7). She finished the week with five hits, four runs and two home runs in 13 at-bats.
