After capturing team and individual titles, Houston’s Hudson Weibel (men’s) and Iowa State’s Nichakorn Pinprayoon (women’s) captured Big 12 Golfer of the Week honors for tournaments scheduled to end Feb. 11-18.
Weibel captured the individual title at the longest-running collegiate golf tournament in the country, joining past champions such as Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw, Charles Coody and Ryan Palmer shooting 8-under par for a two-shot victory at the Border Olympics. The senior from Dallas used a final-round 67 to slay the par 71 / 7,267 Laredo Country Club, helping the Cougars to a two-shot victory and their second team title of the season. It is the second Big 12 in-season award of his career, capturing Golfer of the Month in October.
Pinprayoon captured her first career individual tournament crown, shooting 6-under par for a three-shot victory at the Texas Golf Throwdown. The Lopburi, Thailand native had a bogey-free final round at The Woodlands Country Club, as the Cyclones posted an 39-shot team victory at the former Shell Houston Open and Insperity Invitational host venue. The sophomore is the second Iowa State golfer to win a Big 12 award this season, joining Pammy Chookaew’s September Golfer of the Month award.
